web navigation

One of the most important components of your website is navigation and you should have a good idea of which pages are necessary for the structure at the beginning of the web design process.

Website Structure and Navigation

You may wish to get some advice from the agency you’re working with when considering the structure and navigation.

STRUCTURE: Small sites are very easy to structure, larger sites may need some careful thought and planning.  You want to make sure that the user can easily find what they are looking for, and that if your site is going to be growing in size, do you have the foundation in place to accommodate this growth.  Big changes further down the line can be costly.

NAVIGATION: Keep the top level navigation simple, and break the site down into related categories.  Can you get to any page of the site within 2 clicks?

BREADCRUMB TRAIL: If you have a large site with lots of areas then you need a breadcrumb trail, this is good for SEO as well as usability as the user can find their way back to important pages.
